However, the compatibility gap between DAW and OS should narrow with every new release.

It has come to my attention that it might not be a bad idea to upgrade OSs.

After a spate of problems with my Focusrite Scarlett 18i6, Im in the market for another interface (thats another thread), and Im worried about whatever I buy might not have drivers that work for OSX 10.6.8.

I also have several games that I have gotten through Humble Bundles and even Kickstarterd that I cant play because of my current OS.

Or the fact that several freebies online from various manufacturers are out of my reach because of my old OS.

But there is something that keeps me from switching.well, several things.but the major one.is Kore 2.

Now, Kore is a wonderful program.

I love using it to make some great atmospheric sounds and fx from it.

Id like to do more ambient, chillout, and maybe even video game scores in the future.

Id hate to lose it.

But also to consider is what I will have to upgrade if I change my OS.

What Ill have to reinstall, what else isnt going to work.like Logic Pro Studio and my other plug-ins.

Now, Ive noticed that I can still buy Lion OSX, despite Mavericks being free, but 20 is a small price to pay for having more usability but not losing the ability to use Kore and other programs.

Ive never upgraded a Mac OS, only a PC.

I can only comment on Mavericks as I jumped from 10.6.8 straight to Mavericks.

Logic 9 is usable but will not run 100 of my plugins and has various display issues.

So Ive ended up keeping 10.6.8 on a separate partition for when I want to use Logic and other apps that only run in Rosetta.

I would advise that you check all your plugins to see which OS they are compatible with.

However, I use Komplete 9 Ultimate on OSX 10.9.4 without any problems.

I am a PT HD user and Mavericks has been excellent so far.

Still staying on 10.6.8 here, do not want any effing upgrades:if somethings works good leave it working.

I stayed on 10.6.8 FOREVER as it was stable as all hell,.a couple of months ago I switched to Mountain Lion due to some necessary Native Instrument updates etc.

I have had little to no problems.

Mavericks seems a little bleeding edge right now, but depends on your setup.

But I have not run against anything hardware or software yet that has not worked on Mountain Lion acceptably.

I wouldnt worry about the people with tinfoil hats on lol.upgrade.

Two things to keep in mind: 1) If youre using Logic 9 your best OS choice would probably be 10.6.8 because that version of Logic isnt supported by Apple anymore.

L9 is known to be very stable under 10.6.8.

If youre using Logic X youre dealing with a (still) less mature DAW that may not be as stable as L9.
